What is Cold Foam?

Cold Foam is prepared with nonfat milk. The milk itself is blended to create this foamy topping. The texture is very similar to melted ice cream. It is creamy and sweet, yet with not a lot of added sugar or any additional cream.
Starbucks uses its Cold Foam for drinks like cold brew, iced coffee, nitro cappuccinos, and iced cappuccinos. As you can see, you can order it for cold drinks so the Foam won’t melt.
Note that aside from the regular Cold Foam, you can order it flavored, prepared with heavy cream.
The flavored Starbucks Cold Foams are:
- Irish Cream Cold Foam
- Seasonal Pumpkin Cream Cold Foam
- Salted Caramel Cream Cold Foam
- Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Foam
Sounds Yammy 🙂
How do you order cold foam at Starbucks?

Starbucks offers you three options for ordering your Cold Foam drink if you already don’t have one on your coffee.
You can do this when you visit one of the Starbucks cafes and ask the barista to add Cold Foam.
The second option is to use their site. This is done in several steps.
- Enter the site and click on “Sign in” / “Join Now”
- Go to the “Cold Coffees” or “Cold Drinks” menu and choose your favorite drink.
- Under the customizations, select the size of your cup and then click on the “Toppings” tab to open the available options.
- In the new window, scroll down to the “Cold Foam” options and select the one you prefer.
- Click on “Done” to close the window.
- Add your drink to the basket and complete your order.
- Select the store where you want to order your drink.
The third option is to order your favorite drink with Cold Foam from the Starbucks App. The Steps are the same as ordering from their website.
Types of Cold Foam for Starbucks drinks

Starbucks currently offers five different types of cold foam that you can choose from on their app. But there are two other types. Just ask the barista, and you will have your favorite foam as a topping on your cold drink.
Let’s have a look at those Cold Foams and their ingredients:
Regular cold foam
As I mentioned above, this type of cold foam is prepared by blending nonfat milk.
Vanilla sweet cream cold foam
Ingredients:
- 2% milk
- Vanilla extract (or syrup)
- Heavy cream
Salted caramel cream cold foam
Ingredients:
- 2% milk
- Heavy cream
- Sea salt
- Vanilla syrup
- Caramel sauce
Irish cream cold foam
Ingredients:
- 2% milk
- Heavy cream
- Vanilla syrup
- Irish Cream Syrup
Raspberry cold foam
Ingredients:
- 2% milk
- Heavy cream
- Vanilla syrup
- Raspberry syrup
Seasonal Pumpkin cream cold foam
Ingredients:
- 2% milk
- Heavy cream
- Vanilla syrup

Cascara cold foam
Ingredients:
- 2% milk
- Heavy cream

- Cascara Cold Foam
Unfortunately, in 2018 this Cascara Cold Foam was discontinued.
I tried to find more information about it. I browsed Reddit, Facebook, and Twitter. According to Reddit, there were not enough orders for this drink at Starbucks, why it was discontinued. On the other hand, on Facebook and Twitter, many people were extremely disappointed by his absence.
Mistakes when ordering Starbucks Cold Foam Drinks
Finally, I want to look at the mistakes made when ordering a drink with the addition of cold Foam as a topping.
- Cold Foam on a Hot Coffee
- What type of Cold Foam
- Cold Foam on a Frappuccinos and Milkshakes
- Mixing Cold Foam with Whipped Cream
- Cold Foam on Refreshers
- Takeaway” order with Cold Foam
Cold Foam on a Hot Coffee
It is no coincidence that it is called “cold foam.” Its preparation requires cold products, and in order not to melt (spoil) when added to a drink, the drink must be …… COLD.
This type of Foam has become really popular since its appearance, and people often order it. But sometimes they do not think about what kind of drink they order it for.
Therefore, remember that cold Foam is only for cold drinks.
What type of Cold Foam
The best way to order a drink with Cold Foam is by specifying the type of Foam you want, as there are at least seven types of Cold Foams at Starbucks.
You can always seek the barista’s help if you are unsure about the Foam that will pair properly with your cold drink.
Cold Foam on a Frappuccinos and Milkshakes
Imagine a thick texture similar to melted ice cream Cold Foam.
Now imagine the thick texture of Frappuccino and Milkshakes.
You feel like this is not a very good combination, right?
Also, it is good to note that it is best to consume the drink without a straw if you have Cold Foam on your coffee. In this way, the taste of the Foam is richer. For example, this will not be possible with a Frappuccino.
Mixing Cold Foam with Whipped Cream
At first glance, this may sound like a great combination but make no mistake. Cold Foam and whipped cream do not combine well. You have to choose one of the two.
I often have to monitor my calorie intake and calmly say that the combination of these two will increase the calories of your drink.
So be careful when ordering.
Cold Foam on Refreshers
You can add Cold Foam to some Refreshers like the Pink Drink.
But there are some that are highly acidic because of the used fruits.
Such acidity can spoil the Foam itself.
I advise you to ask the barista before putting Cold Foam on your Refresher.
“Takeaway” order with Cold Foam
Keep in mind that the longer the cold Foam stays on your drink, the more likely it is to melt on its own. Therefore, consuming your cold coffee immediately after its preparation is necessary. If you order from the Starbucks app, look carefully at its time to complete the order. Order it, so it’s almost ready when you get there.
CONCLUSION
I hope I have helped you with the choice of Cold Foam. The best Starbucks Cold Coffees can be ordered with this Cold Foam.
Remember that it is not advisable to order it for hot drinks or those with high acidity.
If you like to drink coffee at home and experiment, you could make a Sweet Cream Cold Foam at home.
Enjoy.
