How to prepare Starbucks Salted Caramel Mocha at Home?
INGREDIENTS
- 2 Espresso Shots
- 2 tbsp Chocolate syrup or sauce
- 1 tbsp Toffee Nut Syrup
- 1 cup of cold Milk
- ¼ cup of Heavy Cream
- 1 tbsp Vanilla Syrup
- 1 tbsp Caramel sauce
- Sea Salt Topping (1 pinch of sea salt and 2 pinch of turbinado sugar)
TIPS:
- It is cheaper to make homemade chocolate syrup per serving than to buy it from the store. However, the syrup from the store lasts much longer in the fridge.
- On the top you have to put whipped cream. You will prepare it with by mixing heavy cream and vanilla syrup.
- The sea salt topping is made with sea salt and turbinado Sugar. A smoked sea salt is a great option if you want it to look exactly like Starbucks.
EQUIPMENT
- Espresso Machine
- Handheld milk frother
- Electric milk frother or Steam Wand
Step-by-Step
STEP 1: Prepare the Whipped Cream
Using the Handheld milk frother, whisk the heavy cream and vanilla syrup until you have a smooth homogeneous mixture. Then set it aside while preparing the rest of the drink.
STEP 2: Prepare the Espresso Shots
STEP 3: Put the Chocolate syrup or sauce and the Toffee Nut Syrup in the Espresso
STEP 4: In the Espresso mix add the frothed milk
You can either use an electric milk frother or the steam wand from the Espresso Machine (if you have it with this combination). If you do not have those 2 options, you can improvise with another technique.
You can simmer the milk on the stovetop and then pour it into a French Press. Next, pump the plunger several times to make froth.
STEP 5: Top it with whipped cream, caramel sauce, and Sea Salt Topping
Some TIps for the perfect Homemade Salted Caramel Mocha
- If you do not have an Espresso machine, you can make an Instant coffee. Use 1 tablespoon of instant coffee with 1/4 cup hot water to replace the 2 espresso shots.
- Frothed or steamed milk will increase in volume. To get one cup and a half of frothed milk, you need 1 cup of cold milk.
- Making caramel sauce is not as simple as making chocolate sauce. I prefer to use a caramel sauce from the store. But if you prefer to make it yourself, I will try to help. First, note that if the mixture cools too quickly, the melted sugar may form into a clump. Gradually increase the heat until the clump is melted again. Second, If it has been heated for too long, the sauce might become too thick. To thin it, add 1 to 2 tbsp of cream to thin it.
Some Questions for Salted Caramel Mocha
What is Mocha?
Mocha coffee is a mix of espresso, chocolate, and a lot of milk. Mochas will give you a rich and chocolaty cup.
Mochas are not the best option if you want espresso-like coffee. It can be challenging to detect authentic espresso flavors due to the richness of the steamed milk, sweet chocolate flavor, and creamy texture.
